A new year, a new you, right? Eh…
I’ve never fully bought into the hype of having new goals just because it’s a new year. Goals need to come from deep within or they’re not going to stick, which then leads to failure and lowered self-esteem or frustration. And let’s be real, if you’re looking to change something significant about yourself or your life, the desire needs to fuel you, it shouldn’t be you fueling the desire for change. Doing it the latter way is EXHAUSTING and seldom works if ever.
And sometimes, just sometimes, it needs to be forced upon you so you can finally give in and do what you’ve needed to do all along, like finally giving up alcohol. (gasp)
This hellish depth is where we need our characters to go to effect true growth and change.
So, let’s celebrate the things that push us into the unknown, that shake us to our core, that force us to truly change for the better and become stronger in ways we didn’t think we could. After all, we’re each the hero or heroine of our life, so we must push forward no matter what and conquer every obstacle placed before us.
Here’s to a new year, full of potential and wonder—even if we have to push through times of misery and defeat. After all, growth isn’t always easy, but we Earthly protagonists must grow or be left behind, just like our favorite characters.
